Women Alchemists: Stories and Reflections on Their Place in History, Psyche, and Science

This site is dedicated to the many women throughout time
who have sought to understand their place in the universe.

Web site highlights:
  • The nexus of alchemy, history, and psyche.
  • The scientific/alchemical work of women such as Katherine Boyle, Margaret Cavendish, Sophie Brahe, and Anna Maria Zieglerin.
  • The alchemists'  study of the Kabbalah.
  • Alchemy and the Apocalypse.

A note to readers who teach grades K-12: You will find resources on this site that can assist you in deepening your science curriculum to include womens' biographies that are not found in state adopted text books. The alchemical information is more appropriate for high school, especially when placing chemistry in a historical context. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to obtain further ideas on how to include this topic  for K-12 learners in an appropriate manner.

History does not unfold separate from psyche. The stories that have been traditionally told about the evolution of scientific thought often neglect the humanity of the people, describing their experiences as if they were nothing more than a series of facts listed on a timeline.

My research in education, depth psychology, and the history of science is currently focusing on women alchemists who have sometimes been acknowledged; however, more often been dismissed, mocked, or killed outright.

This site presents a very small portion of my research and some highlights of their stories, as well as links to other scholars' work.
